Kara grew up in Eastern Ontario in the small city of Brockville. Being heavily involved in athletics including soccer, basketball, badminton, volleyball and softball from early childhood, it came as no surprise to anyone that she pursue a degree in the study of human movement.
After completing her degree in Kinesiology at McMaster, Kara went on to complete a Masters’s degree in Physiotherapy at McMaster and graduated in 2004. She has spent the last twenty years working in orthopedics, home care, community pediatrics, school health services and private pediatrics. Kara’s passion has always been working with children. In 2010 she began her pursuit for pediatrics by taking courses, shadowing pediatric physiotherapists and accepting short term pediatric contracts. In 2014 after two years working in community pediatrics and recognizing a demand for pediatric physiotherapy services, she made the decision to start a home-based private pediatric practice PhysiO’Kids.
Kara has always been fascinated by the capabilities of the human brain and body; watching children develop new skills, build on their achievements and apply those skills and achievements outside the clinical setting brings that fascination to its highest level. Striving for milestones and working towards physical goals can be gruelling; there is nothing more rewarding for everyone than reaching these goals while having FUN.
While the impact on individual families has been significant, the overall impact of operating a home-based practice is small. Operating a mobile service has its limitations; having to turn families elsewhere for services as a result of scheduling and travel limitations reduces the overall impact specialized services have on a community. Joining Kids Physio Group means maximizing physiotherapy services for children and networking, collaborating and learning from a network of like-minded, rockstar physiotherapists and bringing an innovative, motivated and fun culture to the Hamilton community. The support of a bona fide, well-established brand like Kids Physio Group means that Kara can continue to provide services to children without the demands of brand development and business infrastructure.
Kara continues to remain active and involved in sports in one way or another. Winters are spent in chilly arenas as a spectator or trainer for her kids’ hockey teams and even trying the sport out herself. In the summer, you can usually find Kara scooping ground balls on the infield or cheering on her children at the baseball diamond and hockey arena.
