Meaghan’s passion for working with children began after spending summers working for summer programs specialized for kids with exceptionalities. She is dedicated to challenging and supporting children to reach their goals and to develop a lifelong love for physical activity.

Meaghan grew up in Hamilton, spending most of her days at the track or on the volleyball court. Her love for the sport extended to coaching local house league teams, running Volleytotz programs and mentoring new coaches at Mountain Volleyball Club where she continues to coach and run summer programs.

Always willing to take on an adventure, Meaghan travelled east after high school and completed her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. During her tenure, she competed on the varsity track and cross-country teams. Meaghan’s experiences out east including coaching, being part of Autism Nova Scotia and the “Best Buddies” program combined with hometown involvement with McMaster Sport Fitness School and YMCA Camp Wanakita prompted Meaghan’s return to her home town to pursue her Master’s degree in Physiotherapy.

Meaghan has experience working with kids from infancy to age 18 in both the public and private sectors. She has treated babies with torticollis and infants and youths with developmental delays, neurological conditions and sports injuries. For the past two years Meaghan has run dryland training for the Ancaster Avalanche Girls U13A and U15A hockey teams. Kara grew up in Eastern Ontario in the small city of Brockville. Being heavily involved in athletics including soccer, basketball, badminton, volleyball and softball from early childhood, it came as no surprise to anyone that she pursue a degree in the study of human movement.

After completing her degree in Kinesiology at McMaster, Kara went on to complete a Masters’s degree in Physiotherapy at McMaster and graduated in 2004. She has spent the last eighteen years working in orthopedics, home care, community pediatrics, school health services and private pediatrics. Kara’s passion has always been working with children. In 2010 she began her pursuit for pediatrics by taking courses, shadowing pediatric physiotherapists and accepting short term pediatric contracts. In 2014 after two years working in community pediatrics and recognizing a demand for pediatric physiotherapy services, she made the decision to start a home-based private pediatric practice PhysiO’Kids and has operated it ever since.

Kara has always been fascinated by the capabilities of the human brain and body; watching children develop new skills, build on their achievements and apply those skills and achievements outside the clinical setting brings that fascination to its highest level. Striving for milestones and working towards physical goals can be gruelling; there is nothing more rewarding for everyone than reaching these goals while having FUN.

While the impact on individual families has been significant, the overall impact of operating a home-based practice is small. Operating a mobile service has its limitations; having to turn families elsewhere for services as a result of scheduling and travel limitations reduces the overall impact specialized services have on a community. Joining Kids Physio Group means maximizing physiotherapy services for children and networking, collaborating and learning from a network of like-minded, rockstar physiotherapists and bringing an innovative, motivated and fun culture to the Hamilton community. The support of a bona fide, well-established brand like Kids Physio Group means that Kara can continue to provide services to children without the demands of brand development and business infrastructure.

Kara continues to remain active and involved in sports in one way or another. Winters are spent in chilly arenas as a spectator or trainer for her kids’ hockey teams and even trying the sport out herself. In the summer, you can usually find Kara scooping ground balls on the infield or cheering on and coaching her children at the baseball diamond.

Sara grew up in Etobicoke, Ontario and brings an avid interest in physical activity, human anatomy and biomechanics to the Hamilton team. Sara’s interests were inspired by having played many sports including soccer, tennis, boxing and horseback riding and by the work of her grandfather, a paediatrician, and her uncle, an orthopaedic surgeon. A childhood spent flipping through anatomy textbooks and playing with her uncle’s anatomical models led Sara to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics, a Master’s degree in Biomechanics followed by a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy.

Since graduating, Sara has worked primarily in the field of orthopaedics, seizing any and all opportunities to work with children and came quickly to the realization that working with kids is her true passion. Sara has experience working with infant conditions, cerebral palsy, vestibular conditions, paediatric gait and sports injuries and has expanded her scope in the area of paediatric pelvic health, helping kids become bowel and bladder bosses. She is not afraid to bring out her silly side and her sense of humour is known for creating serious belly laughs.

Sara currently holds the position of Adjunct Clinical Professor in the McMaster School of Rehabilitation Sciences teaching anatomy and tutoring problem-based tutorials. Outside of her working hours you can find her spending time with her two cats JLo and Moose (she is a self-proclaimed cat-mom extraordinaire), channeling her inner chef/baker by trying new recipes, playing the guitar and spending time outdoors to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.
